[ Ordinarily he'd wait and make it a surprise, but he's still enamored of the picture-taking capabilities of his wrist device.
Thus he attaches a picture of this ]

He thought, this sort of technology really was amazing. To be able to send information so quickly...there could be so many uses for it. They clearly had no infrastructure or technology for such a thing in Great Liang but he's been thinking of alternatives.
He recognized the item in the picture he received, had considered its convenience but inevitably decided it was too expensive and that he was better off vacuuming on his own.
So...this was a pleasant surprise, even more so because the bulk of house work is done by Chang Geng so this purchase could only (dare he think it) be for his sake.]
You didn't have to...but thank you.

[ He attaches a video this time, of the little robot scuttling slowly across the floor and bouncing off walls and other obstacles. ]
I admit it's a strange pet, but it doesn't need feeding, won't make messes, and doesn't chew things. So I though it would be perfect for you.
no subject
[Not that he's complaining.]
Not only does it not make messes it helps clean it up. Very few pets could boast the same.
If it is a pet, are we going to name it?
no subject
I suppose it might be useful, in that case. I simply thought it was cute.
[ He is, of course, playing dumb. ]
Since it's a gift, naturally you should be the one to name it.
no subject
[...he's not chugging vinegar over a roomba. Well. Maybe just a little.]
I suppose I'll have to think of something.
no subject
Cute is a word for toys and pets.
[ still, he can't resist: ]
did you want me to praise you?
no subject
Yes.
[Look at him! So spoiled! Look at this child you raised...oh wait.]
no subject
Are words unbefitting my lover.
Stones are cold
Flowers fade in a day
And starlight cannot be held.
All words of praise are empty, or else incomplete besides these two:
Chang Geng.
[ He is, naturally, laying it on with a trowel—but you did ask, kid! ]

Ah, this really...he wishes he could bring this back with him and tuck it away, together with the rest of Gu Yun's letters.
It takes him a moment to gather himself again, enough to reply.]
What would you like for dinner today?
[....yes, this was the best he could come up with.]

no subject
All right.
[He says but there's still going to be vegetables somewhere on that dinner table sorry not sorry.
But also...]
Thank you.
no subject
So I'll collect your thanks at home.
Until then, little star.

It was still a small thing and it doesn't do justice to the happiness that washes over him like a tidal wave. And yet it is undoubtedly happy and made him appear younger.
He feels like, if his self-control were even the slightest bit weaker, he would certainly be grinning like a fool.]
I will endeavour not to disappoint my general.
